Introducing NQT / RQT support from Science Across the City

Welcome!

Are you an NQT or an RQT working in Stoke-on-Trent? If so, Science Across the City are here and are able to support you in all things Science. Whether it is help with specific needs, signposting to quality resources, providing CPD or whatever else you need, we would love to help and so invite you to join our city wide NQT network.

My name is Grace Marson and I am the NQT Mentor fully funded by the Opportunity Area Science Across the City project. I am an experienced primary school teacher and Science Leader. I also work for Keele and North Staffordshire Teacher Education where amongst many things, I lead and teach the Science sessions and Science Specialism on the PGCE course. Working with teachers in the early stages of their careers is a passion of mine and I am excited to share my experience and philosophy for great primary Science with the community of new teachers in Stoke-on-Trent.

NQT Network

The NQT network is fully funded and so free to join. Its aim is for collaborative working, sharing best practice and ultimately impacting on your own development and the outcomes for the pupils you teach. There will be regular meetings throughout the year, held via Zoom, or if the situation changes, face to face. You will meet other teachers in the same stage of their career as you. The meetings will be informal as we understand the demands of teaching and actually want to help you by giving you chance to share and to access ‘quick wins’.

By being part of the NQT network, you will also have access to high quality CPD provided from National expertise supporting local teachers. In particular the series Thinking Doing Talking Science is ideal for making practical work meaningful and to support understanding through talk strategies There will also be special events, themed weeks and celebrations throughout the year that you can participate in.

Support from a dedicated NQT Mentor

For some, teaching Science is a daunting prospect and so by joining the NQT network, I aim to make it less so. After attending any CPD, as a mentor I will guide you and coach you to ensure that your new ideas have a real impact in your classroom and make your life less busy but more focused on the things that make the biggest difference.
